telemedicine applications in use...

In response to government policy makers' interest in obtaining information about the effectiveness of "clinical teleconsultations," the MRTC has invested substantial resources in cultivating the use of video communications technology to provide a two-way, interactive link between persons located in rural and urban settings. At the same time, we recognize that this technology can be used to meet the educational needs of health care professionals and community members. To that end, the MRTC currently supports the delivery of continuing education programs for physicians, nurses and other hospital staff. We are also committed to enhancing the health of our communities through educational offerings that emphasize wellness and disease prevention. In addition, because timely interpretation of medical images can improve patient outcomes, the MRTC has piloted the implementation of store-and-forward technologies such as "teleradiology" and "telepathology."
